Sohn Yunwon, driven by an interest in the floor and the concept of hospitality, explores the sharing of landscapes and connections through site-specific installations, sculpture, drawing, and sound. Focusing on the interaction between the floor and the beings that occupy it, her work continually expands the notion of hospitality, using the physical foundation of the “floor” as a medium to experiment with relationships between space and the body. From works that interweave her experiences as a foreigner in the Netherlands with the cultural particularities of Korea, to collaborative projects reflecting her multifaceted identity as an artist, mother, colleague, and outsider, her practice invites a rethinking of hospitality from the liminal positions between inside and outside, host and guest.
