About the artist
Jung Ahjoo, born in 1995, lives and works in Seoul. She visualizes the emotional flow and psychological dynamics that emerge in the process of forming relationships. The square and diamond-shaped frames on the canvas symbolize the cycle of beginnings, tests, and repeated choices. As we get to know someone, we often choose to overlook flaws and present ourselves through small acts of pretense in the hope of growing closer. But as the relationship deepens, the emotions we tried to ignore begin to surface, and doubts—toward both the other and the self—take root. The artist captures this emotional movement through the unit of a “space.” Each space is a world in itself, marked by traces of experience and belief. As these spaces intersect, they form organic patterns across the screen. Within them lie shadows of failure and fatigue, but also the longing to lift life upward, against the weight of despair. In the end, we continue reaching toward new spaces. Despite uncertainty, we endure and try again—with a quiet, thoughtful will to understand the other. The artist’s canvas becomes a gentle landscape composed of such traces—of feelings, attempts, and connection.
